Another bill that could come up in the next week or two is House Bill 74, a Senate priority that has sat dormant in the House. The bill gives an income tax rebate of up to $250 for married couples filing jointly or up to $125 for other taxpayers. The bill was proposed by Senate leader Phil Berger, R-Rockingham, as a way to return some of the nearly $900 million revenue surplus back to taxpayers. The bill passed in the Senate 30-16, but has been in the House Finance Committee since Aug. 27. Moore said the House is working through that, but will caucus on it this week. The Senate will also continue work on mini-budgets this week. A bill to extend historic preservation tax credits -- a priority mentioned by Berger last week -- is on the agenda in two Senate committees tomorrow.
